Kolkata regeneration project to emulate London

Cheap flights to Kolkata may be increasingly in demand in the coming years in light of the recent announcement of a regeneration project along the city's riverfront.

Chief minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee told the AFP that she wants to "beautify" a ten-kilometre stretch along the banks of the Hooghly River, citing similar projects in London as one of the inspirations for the project.

Plans for the development of the area even include a huge ferris wheel, which is likely to remind visitors from the UK who take flights to Kolkata of the iconic London Eye.

The mayor of the city Sovan Chatterjee told the news provider that those who go on the wheel would be able to get a bird's eye view of the city and river.
